Use a pool cover every single night. Evaporation is the largest single heat loss from a pool, and Carbon Trust puts the saving from fitting a cover at 10 to 30% of total pool energy use.
Check pool hall air temperature is set about 1°C above water temperature. Setting it too high wastes heat and setting it too low causes condensation.
Fit variable speed drives to circulation pumps and run at reduced flow outside teaching hours.
Insulate all pool plant pipework, valves and the calorifier. Payback on pipe lagging in a plant room is usually a matter of months.
Get a heat recovery unit assessed on your pool hall extract. Carbon Trust guidance puts pool heating and pool hall ventilation at up to 65% of energy use in a wet facility, so that is where the money is.
